Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk released in India last week is now a blockbuster hit and is minting money. The film earned a whopping Rs 3 Crores from its first day itself and the total first-week collection is Rs 16.75 Crores.
Despite limited release (471 Screens) and limited audience as the movie released in English language only, the response that Dunkirk received is outstanding. Apart from the amazing star cast of Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Fionn Whitehead, Harry Styles, etc., the film also has the veteran actor, Michael Caine doing a voiceover.
Christopher Nolan wrote the screenplay 25 years ago when his wife, Emma Thomas sailed past the English Channel to Dunkirk. Dunkirk is a war film set in the 1940s during World War II and shows the painful stories of the life and survival of allied soldiers deserted on a seaport in France, with so much adept and expertise. The story of the movie is told over 3 different war-platforms at the same time – land, sea and air.
The film features some breathtaking aerial shots of dogfights between British Spitfires and German planes and the best part is that these scenes were recreated without the use of computer effects or green screen technology. Real Spitfires’ planes were used, a few of which were left in good condition after being retired from the Royal Forces in the early 1960s.
