Disney's iconic romantic tale Beauty and The Beast is back in a live-action avatar. The remake of 1991 classic story stars Emma Watson as independent Belle and Dan Stevens as The Beast.
Beauty and the Beast is an intriguing love story of a brave and intelligent Belle and a cursed prince and how she saves him despite all the hurdles.
Directed by Bill Condon, the film also features Kevin Kline as Belle’s father, Maurice; Ewan McGregor as Lumière; Ian McKellen as Cogsworth; Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts; Luke Evans as Gaston and Josh Gad as Le Fou.
Disney composer Alan Menken, who has penned songs for the original animation has written three new ballads for the live-action retelling.
The live-action will feature unused lyrics from the original 1991 version that were penned by the late Howard Ashman. The remake also has several changes to the Belle’s character as Watson wanted to add more depth to the ‘thinking girl’s’ fairytale. The film is already in news because of Watson’s feminist touches and for having a gay moment in the film, first in the history of Disney fairytales.
Will the film be able to recreate the magic of the original? Will the live-action version be able to connect to the younger audience? Sameeksha of News18 is inside the theatre to find out.
