Boycott IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack has taken over our X timelines since the series release. However, director Anubhav Sinha is not letting the controversy around the series impact the celebrations of its success. The Netflix series, which is based on the Indian aircraft hijack in December 1999, was released last week and it has received much love (and criticism) online. Although he has yet to comment on the criticism and boycott calls, the director expressed his gratitude towards those who loved the series.
“इतना प्यार मिला पिछले तीन दिनों में कि बयान नहीं कर सकता। ऋणी। (I have received so much love in the last three days that I cannot describe it. I am indebted),” the filmmaker said. He also enjoyed a serving of jalebis, seemingly celebrating the success of the show. Check out his posts below:

About IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack:
IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack sheds light on the heartbreaking events of the 1999 hijacking of an Indian Airlines flight. An Indian aircraft bound to New Delhi from Kathmandu was hijacked. The passengers were under hijackers’ custody for a whole week and the pilot was asked to fly around several destinations. One person on board died during the hijack.
Why is the Internet Boycotting IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack?
Several netizens have accused the series of ‘whitewashing’ the events. They are also upset that the names of the terrorists have been changed. In reality, the hijackers were reportedly named Ibrahim Athar, Shahid Akhtar Sayed, Sunny, Ahmad Qazi, Zahoor Mistry and Shakir. In the series, the terrorists have been named Bhola, Shankar, Doctor, Burger and Chief.
The writer of the book, based on which the series is made, weighed in on the controvery. The writer, Neelesh Misra shared a post on X to reveal the real story behind changing the names of the attackers on the show. “All the hijackers assumed false names. That is how they referred to each other and how the passengers referred to them throughout the hijacking — Regards, the author of the first book on the IC-814 hijacking,” Neelesh shared on X. Anubhav reposted the post.
IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack features a stellar starcast. These include actors Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza, Arvind Swamy and Dia Mirza.
