  1. On the auspicious day of Krishna Janmashtami, whether you are fasting or not, take a bath early in the morning after cleaning the house properly.
  2. People must clean the pooja area before starting the Janmashtami rituals. From making the idol bathe to the new clothes and ornaments, make sure everything is checked and done properly.
  3. Devotees must make sure that the bhog for Lord Krishna includes makhan (butter). It is being said that makhan is the deity’s favourite.
  4. Decorate the house with balloons and streams to mark Lord Krishna’s birth.

This year, as per Drik Panchange, it will be the 5251st Birth Anniversary of Lord Krishna. The subh muhurat for Nishita Puja will start at 11:20 PM on August 26. It will end the next day a 12:05 AM.

Krishna Janmashtami Puja Don’t’s

  1. It is being said people should refrain from consuming non-vegetarian food including eggs, meat or fish. People should also avoid the consumption of alcohol.
  2. The food items prepared on the day of Janmashtami must not include onion and garlic.
  3. Even you are not fasting, make sure you don’t make fun of those who are.
