Holi is around the corner. Most of us will dive headfirst into the playful ritual of applying colours to one another. Abir, gulal, water colours and various kinds of colours are used to play Holi. While indulging in the spirit of Holi, no one thinks about the tedious aftermath i.e., scrubbing your skin and particularly your hair, for ages till the colours vanish completely. After playing Holi, people use many types of harsh shampoos and hair products to remove colour from hair, but to no avail. Many of these products can also damage your hair and scalp. Let us list some simple and safe remedies to get the colour out of your hair.
If you have played Holi with watercolour or someone has applied a lot of gulal in your hair, do not apply shampoo repeatedly to remove it. Once you apply shampoo, apply a hair mask made of homemade curd and gram flour. Gulal contains lead, which can stick to the scalp. Do not rub the scalp too vigorously while applying shampoo. Add 3-4 spoons of curd in 2-3 spoons of gram flour and mix well. Apply it thoroughly on the scalp and leave it for 30 minutes. Then rub the hair with your hands and clean the hair with water. This will not only bring out colour but will also provide nourishment to the hair. You can apply this paste for two to three days.
You can also apply sesame oil to remove Holi colour from hair. Take two spoons of sesame oil and heat it lightly. Now add one egg white to it. Mix it and apply it thoroughly on the scalp and hair. If your hair is long, go for a larger hair mask so that it is applied well on all sides. After keeping it for 20 minutes, clean it with water. After some time or the next day, clean the hair with herbal shampoo.
To prevent the colour from adhering stubbornly to your scalp and hair during Holi, consider applying mustard or coconut oil beforehand. This protective layer can help facilitate the removal of colour afterwards. Simply, wash your hair with a mild shampoo to clean it effectively.
You can also apply aloe vera gel to your hair. It has a cooling effect. It can reduce scalp irritation and itching caused by colour. Add 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel and half a teaspoon of lemon juice in a bowl and mix. Apply it thoroughly on the scalp. After leaving it for some time, clean the hair with mild shampoo.
