Puttu is one of the famous and healthy breakfast options one can indulge in. Puttu is a steamed rice cake and is a popular food item in Malayalee households. It is also relished in Tamil Nadu, parts of Karnataka and Sri Lanka. Puttu is cylindrical and made of ground rice layered with coconut shavings and may have sweet or savoury fillings, depending on your taste. It is best served hot. Puttu can be made with red rice, ragi, and wheat flour. You can also try Oats Puttu, which will make you want to have it every day.
Generally, oats are consumed as khichdi or porridge. However, after some time, it can get boring. So, if you want to kick up your breakfast game, check out this easy-to-make Oats Puttu recipe, which will become an instant hit with the kids as well.
To make this recipe, you will need-
Oats – 1 cup
Grated Coconut – As required
Jaggery (for sweetness)
Cashew – 5 – 7
Cardamom powder – a pinch
Ghee – 2 tablespoons
Water – 3 tablespoons
Salt – as per taste
Step-by-step recipe-
Powder the Oats by pulsing it in a mixer. Then, dry roast the oats powder on high flame for five minutes. Make sure to stir continuously, or else the powder may end up burning.
Allow the mixture to cool. To this sprinkle Water little by little and stir the mixture properly, Knead it to ensure everything is perfectly incorporated.
Now, in an idli plate, boil it.
In a separate vessel, add a dash of water and jaggery to make a paste. Put the kadai in an over and add ghee. Then add pieces of cashews and roast them till golden brown on medium flame.
Meanwhile, to the boiled oats and sprinkle a little salt. Then, add it to the jaggery mixture and stir it well.
The final step is to add the grated coconut and cardamom powder and mix it properly.
You can eat it just as it is, or if you prefer to shape it, you can do it the authentic cylindrical way or spherical as well.
