Why is Akshaya Tritiya auspicious?
All over India and in parts of Nepal, Hindus and Jains celebrate Akshaya Tritiya. The day marks new ventures, marriages, charity and investments in gold and property. As per the religion, on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, Lord Vishnu’s incarnation, Parashurama and Hayagriva were born. Parashurama is known as the sixth avatar of Vishnu and a Brahmin warrior responsible for restoring balance and dharma by defeating evil, while Hayagriva is known to be a horse-headed avatar of Vishnu and God of Knowledge and Wisdom. Their birth anniversaries are celebrated on this day. It is also believed that the Tretayug began on this date, during which Lord Rama was born.
In Sanskrit, the word Akshaya means never decreasing (of prosperity, hope, success and happiness), while Tritiya means the third phase of the Moon. Akshaya Tritiya falls on the Lunar Day of the Vaisakh month, as per the Hindu calendar.
