Rahul Mishra made his official couture debut at the Amazon India Fashion Week and presented an awe-inspiring collection. More than his work it was the intention behind it that impressed us. The designer stressed on 'reverse migration' and told us about how 90 per cent of his creations were made in the Indian villages. How he wants the artisans to move to their villages and work from there so that they can have a better standard of living.
Speaking about his collection, the couturier said, “I am not trying to create something just for the bride here. These days a lot of events are happening in terms of destination wedding and for me I am not really focusing on creating any heirloom piece. My palette for lehenga has been very neutral. Because I believe that today's bride is very intelligent. She can team up an old blouse of her mother may be with a gold lehenga or a silk dupatta which she might have picked from somewhere in India. Internationally this is a learning which I have got. Nobody wears Dior or Alexander McQueen or any brand from head to toe. Why should I force my style sense onto a bride who is already so intelligent?”
The collection was inspired from centuries old Chintz textiles and it carries detailed simplicity, which is represented through age-old craftsmanship in a progressive graphic style. It also had a lot of bomber jackets & jumpers with lehangas, cape and jackets with saris.
