Srinagar: The youth, whose video of him lying down on railway tracks as a train passes over him at high speed, has been detained along with his friend who filmed the act. Police officials say both of them would be set free after counselling.
A police official told News18 that the boy in the video has been identified as Aadil. He performed the act in his hometown of Bijbehera, in Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
“We have detained both the boy and his friend who shot the video. We will be counselling them,” the officer said.
The boy’s parents are in shock and were relieved to know that their child is safe.
Aadil put up a post after widespread outrage over his video, asking people and the police to forgive him. He further said that such acts would not be repeated. “Generally, such foolish acts are done thanks to a bet or to display a bet. In this case, though, it was a spur of the moment thing,” said a police officer.
There has been a massive outcry on social media after the video was uploaded on Tuesday. Former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah also tweeted about the act, saying he could not “believe the stupidity of these young men”. He later tweeted saying, “Arresting him isn’t the solution. He should be counselled and let off with a stern warning. Our prisons are too full of young men as it is and stupidity isn’t a crime.”
