New Delhi: The fourth edition of the Albatross International Junior Golf Championship will tee off from November 20-23, 2012 at the Jaypee Greens Golf Resort in Greater Noida. The three-day tournament will feature the top junior golfers from India and around the world, all vying for a total of 13 titles - nine individual and four team titles.
The foreign contingent will consist of golfers from South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, Sweden, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE and Nepal. The tournament will get underway from November 21, following a practice day and the opening ceremony on November 20. The competition will be held across four groups - Category A (15-17 years), B (13-14 years), C (11-12 years) and D (8-10 years). In addition, there is a fifth category E, reserved especially for six and seven-year-olds.
“It has been a splendid journey for us. This will be the fourth edition. We want to give our best again. Our main aim is to encourage young talents. We hope that these cubs would soon play in Asian Tour and European tour events,” said an event coordinator.
The winner of the tournament will be awarded a crystal studded trophy and a ranking by the R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking Points. Piyush Sangwan, who claimed third spot last year in Category C, said: “Albatross has given a big platform to us. I have been performing since the inaugural edition. I stood third in Category C last year. I will try my best this year to clinch the top spot. The management is very supportive and parents too. I want to represent India one day”.
Mohit Taneja, brand manager, Adidas, said, “We want to give as much as support at junior level. These are our young talent and the future of our country. We are a sports equipments company providing equipment to the juniors at a discounted price. We will also try to provide as much facilities as we can. This is an initiative from us to provide facilities to the youth”.
