BHUBANESWAR: For the first time, the Utkal University of Culture (UUC) will organise yoga classes for the public inside its campus, as a free service. The UUC came up with this concept keeping in mind the increasing health consciousness among the people. A one-month yoga programme has been scheduled for the public from March 1. They will be taught yoga, asana and pranayam. Experts from two yoga colleges in the city will conduct the classes. Dr Indulata Das and Swami Yogeswara will be supervising the programme. The registrations will be based on first-come-first-serve basis. “We will take as many participants as the venue can accommodate. We have estimated that around 50 participants can be accommodated at any given time,” UUC Vice-Chancellor Amiya Kumar Pattanayak said. The classes will be conducted at 6.15 am everyday. “We have the expertise and we felt the need for such classes, so we will be offering it as a voluntary service,” Pattanayak said. The participants will be provided certificates from the university on successful completion of the yoga course. There is no age bar for taking part in the course. Individuals suffering from any medical ailment will have to inform the management prior to taking part in the classes, so that the syllabus can be modified according to their requirements. Depending on the popularity of the course, they might introduce a second batch if needed, Pattanayak said.
