HYDERABAD: Pedamangalaram in Moinabad mandal reverberated with Jai Telangana slogans as hundreds of T-protaganists thronged the village to pay their last respects to M Yadi Reddy, who committed suicide two days ago near Parliament House in New Delhi even as sporadic incidents marred the bandh call given by the TJAC on Friday.The bandh call was given to protest against the refusal of the government to allow Telangana leaders from paying homage to Yadi Reddy.A grim atmosphere prevailed in Pedamangalaram since morning as hundreds of people and politicians descended on the village to pay homage to Yadi Reddy. TRS MLA T Harish Rao personally supervised the funeral arrangements.TJAC convenor Prof M Kodandaram, Telangana Praja Front leader and balladeer Gadar, TRS legislator E Rajender, Telangana Jagruthi leader Kavitha and several others consoled the family members of Yadi Reddy and took part in the funeral procession.In the afternoon, Yadi Reddy’s body was taken out in a procession in the village before being cremated. Police was deployed in large numbers as a precautionary measure.Telangana activists demanded resignation of Union minister S Jaipal Reddy under whose constituency Moinabad falls and vowed to fight unitedly till a separate Telangana state is carved out.Meanwhile, a 27-year-old K Kumar made an attempt to end his life in Suraram village in Warangal district late Thursday night.Kumar climbed atop an electric police and touched a live wire but was rescued by the locals who pulled away the fuse snapping power supply to it. A class X dropout, Kumar, was reportedly depressed over Yadi Reddy’s suicide. He is undergoing treatment at a hospital.However, according to another version he was injured when he was trying to rectify some electric problem.Another youth, B Subhash (30), a native of Nizampur in Sadasivapet mandal, committed suicide for the cause of Telangana in the wee hours on Friday.His family members said that Subhash, an autorickshaw driver, got disturbed with the death of Yadi Reddy. He did not take food on Thursday night.Early on Friday morning, he went out of the house and came home after sometime.Soon he began vomiting and his relatives shifted him to Sangareddy hospital in a 108 ambulance.Stating that his condition was critical, the doctors advised his family to shift him to Hyderabad but he died on the way. He is survived by wife and a son. Police said that they recovered a suicide note from Subhash’s trousers.Sadasivapet police registered a case. Elsewhere in the 10 districts of the region, the bandh was total and peaceful except a few incidents.In Marpally village of Rangareddy district, Telangana activists reportedly damaged hundreds of acres of gardens in a farm house allegedly belonging to a person from non-Telangana region.Though the bandh did not have much impact on the running of RTC buses in the city, majority of buses were confined to depots.Additional director general of police (law and order) M Ratan said 638 persons were taken into custody as a preventive measure. Rasta rokos, effigy burnings, dharnas and rallies were held across the region.
