A 27-year-old woman has filed a sexual assault complaint against her ex-lover, a Chennai-based software engineer, alleging that he refused to marry her following a nearly five-year-long live-in relationship.
Kamala claimed that the accused, Govind (both names changed), now working in Chennai, was in love with her right from their school days. Both of them hailed from the same locality in Sivagangai.
The woman took up a traditional medicine course in a college here and Govind frequently visited her. “We both exchanged rings at a church in the presence of a few friends and started living together in a house here. Govind used to visit me and stay in the house for several days,” Kamala told police.
Their relationship continued between 2007 and 2012. An officer with the Saravanampatti police station detailed, “The complainant said that Govind started avoiding her in the recent months after she insisted on publicly declaring their marriage. After this, she informed her parents about the incident and they prompted her to lodge a complaint.”
On Tuesday, police booked the 28-year-old Govind under IPC sections 496 (fraudulent marriage ceremony), 493 (deceitfully cohabiting with a woman) and 417 (cheating). “We have sent a team to conduct an inquiry with the accused,” police officials said.
Lovers seek asylum
Meanwhile, at Erode, a college girl Kumuda (19) and her lover Suresh (26), a car driver of Bhavani, sought asylum in the All Women Police Station, Erode, on Tuesday after tying the knot in a temple.
It is stated that when the couple visited the station, her parents came and tried to convince her and take her back home. As the girl refused, cops allowed the couple to go in a car. On seeing this, a group besieged the car and attacked the driver, after which, the couple sought asylum in the station.
