A woman died on Sunday morning after a speeding BMW rammed into a bike-borne couple in Mumbai’s Worli. The couple was on the way home after buying fish from Sassoon Dock when they were hit in the Koliwada area.

The victim identified as Kaveri Nakhava was rushed to Nair Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Meanwhile, the person driving the car fled the scene.

Worli Police has detained the car owner Rajesh Shah, who is a local leader of Shiv Sena (Shinde) in Palghar. The police have nabbed the absconding driver, who was suspected to be at with Mihir in the car at the time of the accident.

Who is Mihir Shah?

  • The 24-year-old accused in the BMW crash case, Mihir Shah is the son of a leader from the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), Rajesh Shah.
  • At the time of the accident, Mihir was allegedly driving the luxury car and was accompanied by his driver named Rajrishi Bidawar, who is currently in police custody.
  • As per media reports, Mihir studied till Class 10 and did not pursue education after that. He was helping his father’s construction and real estate business in Maharashtra.
  • The BMW was later found in an abandoned state in Kala Nagar in the Bandra East area. As per police, Mihir left his car in Bandra before running away in an auto-rickshaw. His companion, Rajrishi Bidawat also took an auto-rickshaw and came to Borivali after the crash.
  • As per police sources, quoted by Hindustan Times, the accused drank at a bar in Juhu last night. On his way home, he was driving amd the speeding BMW hit the scooter on which the Pradeep and Kaveri were returning home.
  • The accused has been booked under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sahita, including 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 281 (rash and negligent driving endangering human life), 125-B (endangering life and personal safety), 238, 324(4) (committing mischief amounting to cause loss and damage).
