KOCHI: Despite Chief Minister Oommen Chandy pressing panic button over the alarming rise in the money chain fraud in the state, Sabarinath, the lanky young man who started it all, is nowhere in the picture. It has been over four months since Sabarinath vanished from the scene. His multi-level marketing company, ‘Total4U’, has become synonymous with money fraud following his expose. As the case against him is yet to come up before the court for hearing, there are literally no efforts on the part of the police to nab him. Surprisingly, his name and information are conspicuously missing from the list of wanted and missing persons available on the official website of the Kerala Police. The Crime Branch officials and Neyyatinkara police who are probing into different cases related to Sabari passed the buck on each other when enquired about the delay in nabbing the fugitive. The only major step taken by the investigating officers in this regard is a ‘wanted’ notice published in print media. The notice was published by the Crime Branch Criminal Investigation wing of the police.CB-CID DySP Reghu who is probing the cases told City Express that there was no possibility of Sabarinath sneaking out of the country since the police had seized his passports. There were reports of Sabarinath having escaped to West Asia.“The investigation has been extended to Ernakulam based on a tip off,” he said. The CB-CID will soon initiate proceedings to attach the property of Sabarinath in an attempt to draw him into their trap, Reghu said. The DySP also said that the duty of tracking down Sabarinath primarily rested with the Neyyatinkara police since Sabarinath was  directed by the court to mark his attendance at the station regularly. The case was handed over to CB-CID only because they were probing into the other cases, including money fraud charged against Sabari. But the Neyyatinkara police had something different to tell. “It is obvious that the complaint filed by Sabari’s mother, Jalajambika, is false  intended to mislead the police. The Crime Branch is probing into the other allegations levelled against him. Hence the Crime Branch officials should show more interest in tracing  him,” said K R Sivasudhan, the Circle Inspector of Neyyatinkara police station. The uncertainty following the delay in finding Sabarinath has resulted in growing concerns among his investors who had lost their money. Two of his investors are in a fix as they had  furnished a bail bond adding to `45 lakh before the court for the release of Sabari after he promised them to return the money as soon as he got out.
