South 24 Parganas: Baruipur railway station was ransacked on Sunday after hundreds of applicants appearing for TET (Primary Teachers Eligibility Test) got delayed at the station and could not appear for the exam. This happened after an applicant fell off from an overcrowded train and was seriously injured. The police resorted to lathicharge and 50-60 people were injured in the incident.

The incident took place on Sunday morning when thousands of aspirants for the Primary Teachers Eligibility Test gathered at the Baruipur station platform to travel to their respective examination venues. When a train entered the station, a jostle ensued among the passengers to get into the train and in the melee, a candidate tumbled off the train. He was critically injured and admitted to a nearby hospital for primary medical treatment.

The incident angered the crowd which blocked the railway tracks and vandalised the station premises. However, later, the situation was brought under control by the police.

In a similar incident in Hoogly, another applicant was seriously injured after falling down from an overcrowded train.
