MYSORE: Tension prevailed at Hanur village in Kollegal taluk when hundreds of villagers, including women, attacked drivers of earth movers and confronted the police, protesting the move to set up a stone crusher unit in the village.
The residents of more than ten villages gathered to protest against the government's decision to permit quarrying in Muneshwara Hills between Belthur and Udanur villages. The government has given sanction to one Sampangiramaiah's kins for quarrying. Ramu, his son got perission for two acres, while Sridhar, his soninlaw got permission for four acres.

But the villagers opposed setting up of the crushing unit, fearing that blasts would pose threat to houses constructed in fields and pollution would affect standing crops and farming activities.

Enraged over setting up the stone crushing unit at Muneshwara Gudda, local deity of the region, many villagers, including women, attacked employees, stopped machinery and confronted the police.

Earlier the villagers had gheraoed Mines and Geology Department officials during their visit, demanding in vain the cancellation of the lease and not to permit quarrying in the region.
