A car accident in Maharashtra’s Nagpur led to mob violence after the vehicle struck three people, including a child. The incident, which occurred in the Zenda Chowk area on Friday evening, left the victims injured.

The speeding car hit a woman, her child, and another person around 8:30 pm, according to Nagpur DCP Gorakh Bhamre. Three people, including the driver, were detained by the police in connection with the case. Liquor bottles and narcotic substances were reportedly found in the car. The accused have been sent for a medical examination, and the process of filing a case is underway.

“A woman, her child, and another person were injured after a speeding car hit them around 8:30 pm at Zenda Chowk area of ​​Kotwali Police Station. People caught one of the accused. Police detained 3 youths and the car driver in connection with the case. Liquor bottles and narcotic substances were seized from the car. Medical tests of the accused are being conducted and a case is being registered,” the Nagpur DCP was quoted as saying by ANI.

This event follows a recent tragedy in Pune, where a 17-year-old boy crashed his Porsche into two IT professionals on a bike, resulting in their deaths. The victims, identified as Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhia from Madhya Pradesh, lost their lives on May 19. In the aftermath of the Pune accident which enraged people across the country, a local court remanded six accused individuals, including the teenager’s father Vishal Agarwal, to judicial custody. The investigation was subsequently transferred from Yerawada police station to the crime branch.

The parents of the deceased IT professionals have requested the Supreme Court to oversee the probe and conduct the trial in their state. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed sufficient evidence implicating the juvenile driver. He mentioned CCTV footage showing the teenager drinking liquor in a pub prior to the accident.
