Govt has decided to observe centenary celebrations of adopting Vande Mataram and earmarked Rs 150 crore for it.
New Delhi: Months after the controversy over the Vande Mataram issue, Government on Thursday decided to observe centenary celebrations of its adoption as a national song and earmarked Rs 150 crore for it along with three other programmes.
This includes commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the First War of Independence in 1857, 75th anniversary of the martyrdom and birth centenary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and celebration of the 60th anniversary of India's Independence.
A special cell in the Ministry of Culture would be established for the purpose and the post of a Joint Secretary for it will be created, Finance Minister P Chidamabaram told reporters after a meeting of the Union Cabinet.
