Uthrittathi Water Festival: Preparations nearing completion

Preparations are nearing completion for the smooth conduct of Aranmula Uthrittathi Water Festival, marking the idol installation anniversary of Lord Parthasarathi, slated to be celebrated on September 2.

Talking to ‘Express’, president of the Palliyoda Seva Sangham, the apex body of the palliyodams which organises the water carnival,

K V Sambadevan said that a total number of 48 palliyodams (snake-boats) would take part in the event.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Kerala High Court Chief Justice Manjula Chelur, Union Minister of Environment and Forests Jayanti Natarajan, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurian, Home Minister

Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Finance Minister K M Mani, Health and Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar, Tourism Minister A P Anilkumar, MPs Anto Antony and Kodikunnil Suresh, MLAs K Sivadasan Nair, P C Vishnunath, Raju Abraham, Mathew T Thomas and Chittayam Gopakumar would be among the chief guests on the occasion, Sambadevan said.

The procession of palliyodams, comprising 33 A batch and 15 B batch, would begin at 1.30 p.m. after the inauguration of the water festival, he said.

The race of palliyodams, beginning with A batch, would start at 3 p.m. The distribution of trophies for the winners in A batch and B batches would be held at 5 p.m.
