BHUBANESWAR: The India-Japan Friendship Centre has approached the State Government to equip its proposed aquarium project at Puri with Japanese technology. To improve the tourism potential, the Government had decided to set up a state-of-the-art marine aquarium adjacent to CT Road between Panthanivas and Youth Hostel in Puri. The project will entail an expenditure of ` 3 crore and the site for it was identified recently. Projected as one of the biggest marine aquariums in the country, Paradip Port Trust has been directed to lend technical support to it. Different types of fish available in various parts of the world would be collected and kept in the aquarium. Sources said the Orissa Tourism Development Corporation would be the implementing agency for the project. . “The Japanese technology in aquariums is considered the best in the world. We would like to help the State Government in using this technology in the proposed aquarium. Besides technical support, expertise in maintenance will be provided in collaboration with India-Japan Friendship Club, Japan,” said India-Japan Friendship Centre president Kuna Dash. He added that a project report for a dolphin show at Chilika and Puri has been submitted to the State Government. The Centre has urged the State Government to invite trainers from Japan to train the dolphins at Chilika for dolphin shows. “If the fishermen are trained in new fishing techniques using Japanese technology it can be a great boost to the sector,” he observed.
