New Delhi: President Putin may have won a whopping majority for his party, but the results are coming in for more and more criticism.

Protestors were out in Moscow accusing the Russian President of manipulating his party's win.

Supporters of opposition leader Garry Kasparov, who rallied near the Central Election Commission, were blocked by the police.

Meanwhile, both the US and European Union have urged an investigation into the allegations made by the foreign observers against Putin.

When the counting of 99.8 per cent votes had been done, United Russia received 44.5 million (64.24 per cent), KPRF more than 8 million (11.6 per cent), LDPR 5.643 million (8.15 per cent) and SR 5.367 million (7.75 per cent votes), Churov said adding that turnout in Sunday's polls was 64 per cent.

The official results will be formally announced by Saturday.

According to the Russian laws, the newly elected house is to hold its inaugural session in 30 days after the voting, but due to New Year holidays it could not do it before January 8.

President Putin, keen to ensure smooth reformatting of the state power in Russia, yesterday said that he will use his constitutional right and issue a decree to convene Duma session before the 30-day deadline so that the new lawmakers start their work as the country is nearing the presidential polls of March 2.

Putin also said that Duma should reschedule presidential polls so that they do not overlap with the parliamentary polls.
