Gonda: A 25-year-old woman suffered serious burn injuries when she was set ablaze by a youth for foiling a rape attempt at Shuklpur village under Dhanepur police station area in Gona on Saturday.
A youth of the same village tried to rape the woman but as she raised an alarm and villagers started rushing to her house, he sprinkled kerosene kept in the house and set her on fire before fleeing.
The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to the district hospital from where she was referred to Lucknow, police said adding the accused is said to be a friend of the husband of the victim.
Superintendent of Police J Ravinder Gaur said an FIR has been filed in this connection and efforts were on to arrest the accused who is absconding.
