Muzaffarnagar: Even as there is a massive outrage and anger in the country over the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old girl in Delhi, a similar case has been reported from Muzaffarnagar, which is just 130 kms from the national capital. A minor girl has been reportedly been kept captive and raped in a village in Muzaffarnagar.
But what is extremely shocking that when the victim and her family complained to the panchayat, it ordered her to take Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation and not report the matter to the police. But the victim's family declined to do so and complained to the police about the rape.
The 15-year-old victim alleged that her neighbour Tasavvur kidnapped her and raped her for three days. She somehow escaped from the rapist's clutches and reached her home and her family complained to the panchayat. But instead of punishing the accused, the panchayat offered her Rs 1.5 lakh and advised her not to complain to the police.
But the victim refused to accept the decision of the panchayat and complained to the police. Meanwhile, the family of the victim agreed not lodge a police complaint if the accused married the girl. In fact the family was hoping that the panchayat would help the victim.
Police have arrested the accused but there is not action yet against the panchayat for it Talibani order.
