UP issues notification for CBI probe
Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had announced on Friday that the CBI would probe murders in Nithari.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday issued a notification which asks the Central Bureau of Investigation will investigate the serial murders in Noida’s Nithari village.

Four days ago, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had announced in Luknow that the CBI would take over the probe but the delay in transferring the cases had put in doubt whether his government was serious.

The notification came after the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), which governs the CBI, sent a letter to the state's home department about making a proper request for a probe by the agency in line with laid down norms.

Uttar Pradesh's Home Secretary R M Srivastava issued the notification after receiving a communication from the DoPT, said an official release here.

The state government, which adopted a dilly-dallying

attitude, stood exposed over the ordering of a CBI probe when the Union government vehemently denied receiving any notification.

The state government sent copies of the notification to the Centre with a request that the CBI probe 19 cases registered at Noida in connection with the serial killings in Nithari.

It also asked the CBI to probe the murder of Meerut lecturer Kavita Rani.
