Twelve-year Santosh Ashok Gangur of Ramdurg can cut paper in the shape of any word he hears. Till date, he has demonstrated his art in more than 155 programmes.
During the programmes, people can utter any word which they want to see on picture and within seconds, Santosh’s paper cutting shows it. Santosh has received several awards like Basav Nadu Puraskar, Aadi Gurushankar Puraskar, Kala Ratna Puraskar and Kala Praveen award.
At the tender age of three, apart from learning words Santosh also started learning paper cutting. He translated almost every word he heard into picture through his paper cuttings. Now, a seventh standard student, Santosh began performing on stage since he was in first standard.
Speaking to Express, Santosh’s father and Vastu Shastra Consultant Ashok Gangur said that the paper cutting art was God’s gift to his son as no one had taught it to him. “Both my wife Shakuntala, who is a drawing teacher and I encouraged him. He soon began doing wonders with it,” he said.
Gangur said for example it takes 13 seconds for Santosh to cut a picture of a girl playing with skipping rope. Ashok said that his son was also good in painting and drawing even on computers.
Santosh, however, does not use pen or pencil to draw or mark on the paper before cutting it.
Santosh hopes to develop his art and make a career out of it which is supported also by his parents.
