YANAM: Two days after violence erupted at the Regency Ceramics factory, life returned to normal at Yanam, an enclave of Puducherry near East Godavari district of Andhra, on Sunday.Suspecting that workers would take out a rally with the body of Regency Ceramics workers’ union leader Murali Mohan, who was allegedly killed in police action on Friday, the Yanam Police had imposed prohibitory orders in the town. However, peace prevailed as the body was taken for funeral to Mohan’s hometown in T Kothapalle in I Polavaram Mandal, some seven km away from Yanam.People were seen on the roads buying groceries and other essentials on Sunday. However, the usual influx of visitors from Kakinada was not there. “We lost business on Friday and Saturday due to the unrest. Tourists from East Godavari and other parts of Andhra are afraid of coming here. So, it will take some time before things are back on track,” said M Srinivas, a restaurant owner. Some residents were seen looking for computers and furniture that were looted from the Regency Public School on Friday.Meanwhile, a team of Left leaders who attended the Mohan’s funeral at Panduvari Petta alleged that authorities were out to mislead people on Mohan’s death using a false postmortem report on the death of Mohan. Leaders of the CPM, CPI and AP Rytu Coolie Sangham were present.CPM Visakhapatnam district secretary Ch Narasinga Rao alleged that the postmortem report, prepared at the instance of the Yanam administration, cited cardiac arrest as the reason for Murali Mohan’s death. He said the union leader was brutallykilled in police firing.
