A Spanish daily has said that the suspects are part of the LeT.

New Delhi: Of the 14 suspected terrorists arrested in Spain, most were supporters of the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba.

It is suspected that they were planning to carry out suicide attacks in Barcelona on the orders of al-Qaeda in Pakistan, a media report said on Monday.

News agency PTI quoted the Spanish daily El Periodico de Catalunya as saying, "Those arrested had received orders to commit a terror strike in Barcelona during a meeting with senior al Qaeda leaders in Pakistan's troubled Waziristan region. Several detainees were supporters of Lashkar-e-Toiba, a Pakistani group accused of carrying out bombings in India."

Citing unnamed sources, the daily added others were part of Takfir-ul-Hiyra, an extremist splinter group of Egypt's political movement Muslim Brotherhood.

Two Indian nationals are among the 14 people arrested by the police in Spain on suspicion of preparing for a terrorist attack in or near Barcelona. The remaining 12 are Pakistani nationals.

All 14 have been shifted to Madrid for further investigations.

The Indian embassy in Spain is in touch with authorities there to get details of the two Indians.

High Commissioner Sujata Mehta informed CNN-IBN, “We are seeking details of Indians arrested by the police. We are in touch with Spanish authorities.”

Spanish Police had found bomb-making material during raids on the residence of the suspects.

Spanish law allows detention without charge for a maximum of 72 hours for terrorist offences and the deadline will end tomorrow.

In September 2004, 11 Pakistanis were arrested for planning an attack on the same city, just months after the Madrid bombings.
