BANGALORE: In two separate incidents, two men diverted the attention of a pawn broker and an elderly woman and duped them of gold jewels worth `2 lakh.In the first incident reported in Halasur police station limits on Monday, a man who was speaking in Hindi, came to Swarnanjali Jewellers on Car Street in Jogupalya.
According to the police, the man first bought silver ornaments for Rs 500 and then bought two grams of gold jewels for Rs 2,000. Later, he asked the owner Balakrishna to perform a puja for the jewellery and said that the jewellery would be collected by a swamiji later.

As Balakrishna was preparing to perform the puja, he allegedly diverted Balakrishna's attention and made away with two gold chains worth `1 lakh which were on display. Balakrishna realised that he was cheated only after the man left, the police said.

In the other incident reported from Commercial Street police station limits, a 65yearold woman, a provision store owner, was duped of her four gold bangles worth Rs1 lakh.

The man told the owner, Shanta that he had plans to open a new provision store and sought her blessings. He then asked her to touch her gold ornaments to `200 that he took out, saying that it would bring him luck.

A case has been registered in Commercial Street police station in this connection.
