Read on to find out which films failed at the box office

Last Friday saw the release of three films, Sadiyaan, Tum Milo Toh Sahi and Pankh (apart from the arty The Great Indian Butterfly). The first quarter of 2010 has seen very few big releases, and it continued with last week .

Shatrughan Sinha’s son, Luv Sinha made a grand debut in Sadiyaan directed by Raj Kanwar. There wasn't any buzz around the film so obviously the promotional strategies somewhere felt short. The reviews were not in the favour of the film either. A critic has very little to do with the success or failure of the film, but a lot of people do follow the stars in a review before going to a cinema hall.

Vikram Varma, Senior Manager - Marketing, Fun Cinemas said, “No one knows about Sadiyaan and the promos are also not very exciting. The film has not been marketed well. The turn out of the audiences has been very dull. Tum Milo Toh Sahi which didn’t shout before the release of the film, made a calm statement with its promos that it is a simple love story and deals with relationships."

Nana Patekar and Dimple Kapadia returning to the silver screen itself is enough to market a film. Vikram continued, “Tum Milo Toh Sahi is doing well compared to Sadiyaan. It is a nice, simple story told in a convincing way. It's weekend was good."

Director Raj Kanwar has many successful films to his credit, to name a few, Dil Ashana Hai, Laadla, Andaaz, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and the recent Humko Deewana Kar Gaya. Whereas Kabir Sadanand has only one movie in his kitty, Popcorn Khao! Mast Ho Jao.

There is no formula for a successful films, but the promos do play a pivotal role in reaching out to the audience. “Sadiyaan saw very few people in our theatres during the weekend. Tum Milo Toh Sahi is not a housefull movie, but it is a decent watch. The weekend was good. We only had two shows everyday and it was satisfactory," said Nitin Waghmare from Big Cinemas - Vashi, Navi Mumbai.

In the era of IPL and medium budget films doing well, there is very little scope for an art film to wave their flags high. Pankh, an attempt to tell a different story did not get any listeners. The film was thrashed by critics and when it entered the cinema halls on Friday, it was already deeply wounded.

“During the weekend, we had to cancel one show of Pankh because there were no bookings. For another show, there were 8-10 people. The weekend was terrible for Pankh”, continued Nitin Waghmare.

Biyani Mishra at Gaiety Cinema in Bandra also had a similar story to tell. “We did not screen Pankh so I cannot say how the film is doing. But Sadiyaan and Tum Milo Toh Sahi are not tough competition to each other. Tum Milo Toh Sahi is way ahead of Sadiyaan. But surprisingly, Sadiyaan is doing decent."

This week there are three releases, and all of them are different from each other. There is Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, The Japanese Wife and Prince. Let's see, which one sails all the way and which one doesn't.
