BANGALORE: With a major focus on generating awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention among truck drivers, Karnataka Goods Transporter’s Association organised ‘Truckers Utsav’  here on Friday. Speaking to Express, Anand, Project Coordinator, Karnataka Goods Transporter’s Association said, “This is for the third consecutive year we are organising this truckers utsav. Commemorating World AIDS Day which falls on December 1, we are basically concentrating on prevention of HIV/AIDS, especially among truck drivers who remain away from home for about a fortnight to one month.”At the camp, the truck drivers were screened for HIV/AIDS by laboratory technicians from Integrated Counseling and Treatment Centre (ICTC). Truck drivers were also provided testing for skin, eye, dental and sugar levels. Besides aiming at generating awareness, truck drivers were also provided with general information regarding HIV/AIDS prevention.In addition to this, we wanted to make the event a infotainment programme where by the drivers could learn as well as enjoy, he said. Later in the day, various games, orchestra and dance had been organised.Around 600-700 truck drivers, mainly those travelling long distance from Delhi, Pune, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and, Tamil Nadu and other regions took part in the awareness event.
