Kumar's condition is still critical and his chances of recovery are in doubt.

Hyderabad: The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) has come forward to sponsor the Australia trip of Shravan Kumar, who has been injured in a racist attack in Melbourne.

The association is ready to provide all support to Shravan Kumar's father, Khammam resident Chidambara Rao, to make his trip to Australia to meet his son, said TAAI President, Rajinder Rai.

Strongly condemning the recent attacks on Indian students, Rajinder Rai appealed to the Indian High Commission in Australia to take the issue seriously and prevail upon the government there to prevent such incidents.

Meanwhile, Shravan's father met former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP President Chandrababu Naidu and requested him to pressure the government to help save his son.

Twenty-five-year-old Shravan Kumar, who was attacked with a screwdriver by miscreants over the weekend, is now in the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Melbourne.

Moreover, doctors are "not very optimistic" about chances of his recovery, according to the Indian Council General in Melbourne.

Kumar left for Australia one-and-a-half years ago to pursue an automobile engineering course.
