T'puram: East Fort area plan meeting today
A high-level meeting will be held on Wednesday to discuss the development of the East Fort area.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A high-level meeting will be held on Wednesday to discuss  the development of the East Fort area. In the meeting to be attended by Transport Minister V S Sivakumar, V Sivankutty MLA and other officials, TRIDA will present the project to renovate the area.

According to the plan, the campus of the Govt Central High School, Attakulangara, will be renovated in such a way that a bus stand, parking lots, shopping complex, comfort station and other facilities will be included in that area.

The existing bus terminal at East Fort will be shifted to the five-and-a-half acre compound of the school. The school will be relocated to one-and-a-half acres and will be renovated to accommodate more students. The plan is conceived in such a way that it would ease the traffic congestion at the busy East Fort.

Local councillors, officials of DPI, PTI members and teachers too will attend the meeting. TRIDA will present the details of the plan and will invite suggestions from them. Later, the modified plan will be submitted to Minister of Local Self-Government P K Kunhalikutty for approval.

The implementation of the project would be a path-breaking initiative in the development of the city. It will not only ease the traffic congestion of East Fort, but also will remove hurdles before the construction of the Thakaraparambu Flyover.

The project, which has been stalled over the rehabilitation issue of around 60 traders, will get a rebirth as TRIDA is planning to rehabilitate these traders to the shopping complex in the proposed site. Thakaraparambu Flyover is one of the two flyovers planned under the City Road Improvement Project, the other being the Bakery Junction Flyover.

As the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple has become a subject of national and international attention, more and more tourists are flowing to the temple. Parking will soon become a matter of serious concern. The TRIDA plan will be an answer for many such issues.
