DHARWAD: Three persons were killed and four others injured when three lorries collided near Yerikoppa Cross on the Pune-Bangalore National Highway near here on Monday morning. The deceased were identified as Appasaheb Pujar, Ratnappa Hirekodi and Nasruddeen Mohmmed Gouse Jamadar, all residents of Chikkodi in Belgaum district. The injured were admitted to the Karnatak Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital in Hubli. According to police sources, the mishap occurred around 11.45 am when a lorry coming from Belgaum hit another stationary lorry. In the meantime, the driver of a third lorry, which was coming from Bangalore, lost control of his vehicle and rammed into the two lorries. While two persons died on the spot, the third succumbed to injuries at the hospital, the sources said.The mishap resulted in a traffic jam for almost an hour. Police had a tough time clearing the mangled remains of the lorries to enable free flow of traffic.SP R Dileep and other senior police officers visited the spot.
