CHENNAI: City police, who rescued an abducted 12-year-old boy within hours on Wednesday, arrested three persons on Thursday and were on the lookout for three more persons, including the main accused.Police said they arrested two persons, Balasubramaniam and Peter, when they rescued the boy Logeshwaran from a bus on ECR near Uthandi on Wednesday. They also arrested Anbumani alias Kumaravelu (30) in Kumbakonam on Thursday, as four teams had camped there looking for three others, including the main accused Babu alias Vadapalani Babu. Anbumani was Babu’s brother.Police sources said Logeshwaran, who was kidnapped on Wednesday at 7.40 am from near his house in Korattur, was taken to Babu’s farmhouse in Thirumangalakudy near Kumbakonam in a car. When the abductors sensed that the cops were tracing them, they had taken the boy to Puducherry in the car from where he was put on a bus to Chennai. Balasubramaniam and Peter were in the same bus without the knowledge of the boy.Meanwhile, investigations revealed that two persons had come in search of Logeshwaran’s uncle Niranjan Kumar at 6.30 am and one of them had introduced himself has Vadapalani Babu and had allegedly threatened the boy’s grandmother Rani to reveal the whereabouts of her son. Following the lead, 12 special teams began the search for the boy, said P Thamarai Kannan, Additional Commissioner of Police. The cops found that Niranjan had borrowed money of Rs 2.1 lakh from Babu of Thirumangalakudy near Kumbakonam who sold second hand cars in Vadapalani, and had not returned it. Niranjan was also involved in the same business.Police said they intercepted the vehicle on Wednesday night, rescued the boy and nabbed two abductors. “Their aim was to kidnap someone in the family,” said the ACoP. Rajinikanth, the boy’s father who was at the press meet addressed by the ACoP, said, “All I did was to make a call to the control room around 7.45 am. By 8.10 am, police teams arrived at my house.”
