New Delhi: One out of four people on the streets in Frankfurt carries a foreign passport. Frankfurt is the melting pot of diverse cultures in central-western Germany.
Home to Europe's Central Bank and one of the largest stock exchanges in the world, the Deutsche Borse, Frankfurt has seen no less than 36 kings and 10 emperors being crowned.
"Well, I think we are well prepared. There are a lot of hotels here taking the people but there are also cheaper opportunities for the fans to stay," says Frankfurt tourist office spokeswoman Elisabeth Lucke.
"Apart from that one definitely has to say that Frankfurt is used to house a lot of people, being an important congress city where for example each year the museum embankment festival is taking place. Only then, 3 million people come to the city."
Frankfurt's new Commerzbank Arena will host five games in the World Cup including the last quarter-final which could see champions Brazil face Spain.
Most recently, the new arena hosted the FIFA Confederations Cup 2005 Final between Brazil and Argentina.
A total of 80,000 cubic metres of concrete and 12,000 tons of steel were used in the project.
The underground car park boasts an impressive 1,800 spaces. The steel girders and ropes used for the roof weigh some 2,500 tonnes, the 30-tonne video cube incongruously lightweight by comparison.
As part of the Green Goal environment initiative, the stadium features a vast rainwater collection and drainage facility.
