India is one of the major agricultural countries with the second largest arable land in the world. It is the second-largest producer of rice, wheat, cotton and groundnuts. Paddy farming or rice cultivation is a major part of the country’s economy and a staple food of about 60 per cent of the country’s population. Paddy is a semi-aquatic plant that can be grown in varied climates and habitats, including tropical, subtropical and even temperate zones. Now, Telangana’s bureaucrat is also promoting paddy plantation among farmers, forming the backbone of the nation.

To encourage farmers to grow paddy crops, Telangana’s Medak’s District Collector Rahul Raj and his wife planted paddy seedlings. The couple also spoke to the farmers and assured them that he would give them all the support they needed until the crops were harvested.

On Sunday, August 4, Medak District Collector Rahul Raj, his wife and their two children visited a farmer’s field in Aurangabad, next to the Collector’s Camp Office and planted paddy seedlings with the farmers. His children also actively participated in the activity. He took the opportunity to also share that the government has given Rs 445 crore in loan waiver funds to about 70,000 farmers till now. He further directed the agricultural department officials to make sure that farmers should be able to avail all the welfare schemes introduced by the government.

At the same time, he also emphasised that the farmers are an integral part of the country who feed the nation. Further, he explained to the farmers that the government is working to ensure profits in farming and the large-scale loan waiver will benefit the farmers. They also asked the farmers about their method of cultivation, their profits from the crop and the difficulties they have faced while cultivating paddy crops. This left the farmers quite happy that the IAS and his wife discussed the issues with them and also planted the seeds by themselves.
