The 13th edition of Excel 2012, the three-day annual techno-management festival, jointly organised by the Govt Model Engineering College(MEC), Thrikkakara, and Litmus 7 Systems Consulting Pvt Limited concluded here on Saturday. The theme of this year’s festival was ‘Inspire, Innovate, Engineer’.
Chief executive officers Venu Gopalakrishnan of Litmus 7 and Girish Babu of Technopark inaugurated the event on Thursday. The opening day of the fest saw participants from various colleges across South India compete in a number of technical events, ‘Robotics’, ‘Line Tracer’, ‘Wave Cloning’ and ‘eXtundo Prodigo’ to name a few.
The Fun Zone proved to be a huge hit, providing relief from the atmosphere of intense competition. For the gaming addicts, the organisers provided ‘Gaming Zone’ also. Former Supreme Court judge N Santosh Hedge, bass guitarist Jayen Varma, Dhimant Vyas, animator of acclaimed Hindi movie ‘Taare Zameen Par’ were the speakers at TEDxMEC, a session held on September 27. Aswin Sreenivas was the teen speaker.
The second day of Excel 2012 was marked by general quiz and a workshop by Cypress Semiconductor. Those adept in management skills competed for the ‘Best Manager’ title, while the computer savvy ones tested their skills at ‘4x120’, a programming event. ‘Outlaws’, the motor show was a huge crowd puller. The second day concluded with ‘Issue!’, an open debate that had former DGP Jacob Punnoose, Rahul Easwar and journalists Pramod Raman and Sudha Namboodiri. Rekha Menon was the moderator. The fest concluded with a musical event by playback singer Naresh Iyer.
