KARIMNAGAR: Contrary to expectations, Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu's padayatra, Rytu Poru Bata, in Karimnagar district has passed off peacefully except for some sporadic incidents. Police made tight security for Naidu all along his route. The relatively peaceful yatra became possible because a large number of TRS activists had been taken into preventive custody in Medak and Warangal districts. TRS MLA T Harish Rao was kept under house-arrest at Siddipet and another leader Capt Lakshmikanta Rao at Hanamkonda. The padayatra for the first 16 km was incident-free but mild tension prevailed at Mulkanoor where some Telangana activists shouted `Jai Telangana' slogans. TDP cadre, sporting yellowcolour T-shirts, pounced on the separatists. For their part, police caned the agitators and beat them black and blue. TRS leaders Mulugu Purnachander, Kumara Swamy and others were injured in the caning.TRS leaders alleged that Naidu had brought goondas from Andhra and Rayalaseema along with him to attack Telangana activists.Naidu's ‘Yuva Sena’ descended on the district from other districts and guarded him from possible attacks. The Yuva Sena of Naidu even had walkie-talkies for better communication and sticks to guard Naidu.Initially, he planned to visit Husnabad but changed the itinerary in the last minute to avoid facing Telangana activists. But, when he was proceeding towards Nustulapur to address his last meeting, activists attacked him at Mulkanoor.GOOD RESPONSE: Except for these minor incidents, Naidu had a peaceful tour of the district. Right since Lambdaipalli in Chigurumamidi mandal, where his tour began, he interacted with a large number of farmers, trying to understand their plight wrought by the drought and the indifference of the state and central governments. He assured farmers that the TDP stood by them and would fight for them until the central and state governments did justice to them. The TDP president's padayatra covered Lambadipalli, Sitarampur, Mulkanoor and Kottappalli.
