Tamil Nadu agrees to go private to tackle H1N1
Private hospitals have been asked to cooperate with the government.

New Delhi: In Tamil Nadu, where a four-year-old died on Monday, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi held a high-level meeting on swine flu on Tuesday.

The meeting that was held between Karunanidhi, Health Secretary VK Subbraj and other top officials concluded that new testing labs will now be set up in Madurai, Tirunelveli and Coimbatore.

Private hospitals have been asked to cooperate with the government.

Of the 54 people who tested positive in the state, 14 are still undergoing treatment.

“After the meeting, it was decided that private hospitals will also be roped in to give treatment. They will also set up quarantine wards, administer medicines to patients. Till now all samples from all over the country were sent to Delhi and Pune. Now government has authorised 18 such labs including three for Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry,” he said.
