K Sudhakaran MP, favoured a CBI probe into the T P Chandrasekharan murder case, maintaining that an investigation in a wider ambit is imperative and the central agency is the only competent force to do it.
Addressing mediapersons here on Friday, Sudhakaran criticised the state police for spoiling the chances for cornering the masterminds behind the murder by facilitating the release of Babu, CPM office secretary at Koothuparamba, as well as allowing unrestricted visit of Pinarayi Vijayan to jail to meet those under judicial custody.“In an unprecedented manner, jail authorities had even permitted 10 CPM MLAs to visit P Jayarajan and others booked in the case, at a time when the latter was about to spill the beans,” he said. There was a concerted bid by the CPM leadership to deflect the case right from the beginning and also keep the sleuths under constant pressure by issuing threats.
“The extraordinary nature of the case began to be addressed on a wider-scale only after the present DGP took over. Sources told me that the order to release the CPM office secretary came from the top echelons of police,” he said. However, the MP maintained that he was not trying to cast aspersions on the former DGP. “All know well that the police in the state is politically divided. In the SIT team which probed the TP murder case, there were lower rung officers loyal to the CPM,” he said.
Sudhakaran charged that the TP murder was executed by the Kozhikode and Kannur CPM district committees together. “Without the knowledge and permission of the CPM state leadership, such a murder could not be executed meticulously,” he averred.
“So far, the systematic probe conducted by the police and the SIT was commendable. And the courage displayed by Home Minister should be hailed. But that is not enough to net the real masterminds behind the murder. To avoid criticism, an investigation by the CBI is the most appropriate one. I agree to V S ’s stand,” he said.
