Stir hits LPG supply

TRIPUNITHURA: LPG distribution to Kottayam and Ernakulam districts was affected on Thursday owing to the indefinite strike launched by the contract workers of the Udayamperoor IOC bottling plant.Owing to the strike, the bottling unit could despatch only 51 loads of LPG as against the normal supply of 80 loads in a shift.Meanwhile, on Thursday afternoon the permanent employees of the unit also joined the striking contract workers citing the incentive issue. As all trade unions have joined the strike, the authorities have begun steps to solve the issue.The Regional Labour Officer will hold a conciliatory talk with the workers on Friday. If the talks fail, the LPG movement to four districts will be paralysed, which will cause hardship to consumers.
