THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state police has launched a special action plan to take action against persons who dumped garbage on public places in the wake of latest High Court order in this regard. The initiative has been named ‘Operation Sweep’.Under the initiative, the police personnel in all local police stations would conduct special patrolling led by respective Station House Officers to check the dumping of garbage on public places.The officers were also directed to submit reports to the state nodal officer at regular intervals. Inspector General of Police, Traffic, S Gopinath has been made the nodal officer of the programme. The police, under this programme, would also organise awareness campaigns in association with local self governing bodies at residential areas and educational institutions.The people can also inform the police if they come across any one resorting to the offence by calling the Police Control Room number, 100, and also by sending SMS to the mobile phone number of the Police Headquarters, 9497000000.
