New Delhi: Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Thursday said his party won’t withdraw its support to the UPA government at the Centre over the phone-tapping issue.
Setting at rest speculations over a possible breakup of ties between the two parties, Singh said there are no such plans as of now.
While the phone-tapping scandal did a lot of damage to the already fragile relationship between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party and there were speculations that the latter may review its support to the UPA coalition, Singh has ruled out any change in its relations vis-à-vis the UPA in the immediate future.
The Samajwadi Party has 38 MPs in the Lok Sabha and 12 in the Rajya Sabha. An SP decision to ditch the UPA is, however, unlikely to destabilise the government as the UPA has the required numbers in Parliament even without SP.
In spite of their souring ties, the Congress has been giving outside support to the Samajwadi Party government in UP.
