KOTTAYAM: Hundreds of faithful across the district observed Maundy Thursday, reminiscing the Last Supper of Jesus Christ. They attended special services in churches with solemnity, beginning in the wee hours. Washing of the Feet ceremony was held in churches, besides special services to commemorate the day.Vicar Fr Joseph Cherukarakkunnel led the special Adoration and Holy Mass held at Kurisumala Church at Wagamon. The Holy Communion at St John’s Orthodox Church began at 2.30 am. The special services at Puthanangadi Cross Church started at 3 am. The Washing of the Feet ceremony was held at Christu Raja Cathedral at 7.30 am. Kuriakose Mar Evaniose led the special services at Mar Ignatius Knanaya Church. The Holy Week services were also held at Mooledam St Mary’s Orthodox Church on Thursday. Bishop Dr Sebastian Thekkathecheril led the Holy Communion and the Washing of the Feet ceremony at Vimalagiri Cathedral. Rev Joseph Chacko led the services at Jerusalem Mar Thoma Church here. The Washing of the Feet ritual was held at Gandhinagar Mudiyoorkara Holy Family Church under the leadership of Father Joseph Kalarikkal, while Rev Jose Punamadham led the services at Kalathipady Puthuparambu St Luke’s Mar Thoma Church. This year, the churches have effected some changes in the timing of the services.
