Software Engineer Rescued from Ghaziabad Week After Abduction, 3 Arrested
The software engineer, identified as Rajeev Kumar, was abducted on May 24 from a bus stand in Raj Nagar Extension while he was returning from his Noida office.

Ghaziabad: A software engineer working with HCL has been rescued in a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh and Noida police a week after his abduction. Three kidnappers have also been arrested.

The software engineer, identified as Rajeev Kumar, was abducted in the early hours of May 24 from a bus stand in Raj Nagar Extension while he was returning from his Noida office. He was waiting to board a bus to go to his hometown Haridwar for his birthday.

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh and had kept him in captivity for eight days, an officer of the special task force said.

The case was taken up by the Ghaziabad police and the special task force of Noida police. Their efforts paid off early on Friday when they were tipped off to the presence of the kidnappers near Brave Heights in Raj Nagar extension.

"After an encounter with the gang of kidnappers, we were able to safely rescue the engineer. Two kidnappers received bullet injuries. We have arrested three kidnappers," said STF chief Raj Mishra.

Kumar was rescued from a house in Prahlad Garhi village under Indirapuram police station.

Two constable from the STF and Sihanigate Police Station were injured in the encounter.

IANS reported that the arrested kidnappers were identified as Mahesh Mishra, Sharad Sharma and Rinku.

The kidnapper gang busted by the police consisted of young criminals who would abduct upper middle-class professionals after doing a recce of their movements, an officer told the news agency.

ADG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar told IANS that the kidnappers "were using WhatsApp" to keep in contact.
