A Sikh man has alleged that he was asked to remove his turban by a security guard at the Chennai Metro.

The man, 29-year-old Tandeep Singh, took to social media to express his anger over the issue. In a Facebook post, Singh claimed that a guard at the Chennai Metro Rail asked him to remove his turban.

"After the security check, the guard pointed at my turban and asked me to remove it. I said that you can wave your detector around it but I can't take it off and neither can you touch it," said Singh.

He added, "When he insisted on me removing it then I became stern. I am sure he didn't know about these things about Sikhs."

A resident of Chennai since his childhood, Tandeep further said that officials of the Chennai metro later apologised to him for the incident.

"He later apologised and the CMRL also called and apologised," he said.
