Ship probe: Italian guards' arms to be seized
Two fishermen, were mistaken as pirates and shot dead by the crew of the Italian cargo vessel Enrica Lexie.

Kochi: The Kerala police is likely to take the two Italian naval personnel back to their ship Enrica Lexie to seize the arms that were allegedly used to to fatally shoot two Indian fishermen on February 15.

A magistrate sent the two Italian guards to three-day police custody and two weeks of judicial remand.

Criticising the Kerala Police for arresting servicemen acting to protect a cargo ship from pirates, the Italian foreign ministry on Monday had said that Italian authorities should be allowed to deal with allegations that its forces killed two Indian fishermen.

The two Italian marines were part of a security detachment assigned to protect the merchant vessel Enrica Lexie from attacks in the Indian Ocean when the incident happened.

Two fishermen, Ajesh Binki, 25, from Tamil Nadu and Gelastine, 45, from Kerala, were mistaken as pirates and shot dead by the crew of the Italian cargo vessel, about 14 nautical miles off Alappuzha.
