New Delhi: Maria Sharapova has entered the second round of the Australian Open by beating Camille Pin at the Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday.
The world No 1 Russian struggled to get past her unseeded opponent. After winning the first set 6-3, Sharapova lost her way against Camille Pin.
The Frenchwoman kept the rallies long to frustrate Sharapova, taking the second set 6-4.
The 2006 US Open champion came back strongly in the third taking a 5-0 lead but Camille Pin held on, winning the next five games in a row.
But the experienced Sharapova stepped up her game to win the two-hour 50 minute match 6-3, 4-6, 9-7.
