Mumbai: The problems for the faction ridden Shiv Sena are just not coming to an end.
On Monday, supporters of Shiv Sena and Narayan Rane were involved in a clash at the Santa Cruz airport in Mumbai, resulting in increased tensions between the Congress and the Sena.
The clash was between members of the Shiv Sena airport workers' union controlled by Uddhav Thackeray and supporters of former Sena leader Narayan Rane.
Rane's followers had recently started a new faction in the Airport union, which is at present headed by Shiv Sena supporters.
The Sena union picked a fight with Rane's men because of the new faction.
In the ensuing Sena workers beat up a few of Rane's supporters who had to be rushed to a nearby hospital.
Rane's supporters said that the police did not initially accept their complaints.
However, despite the fact that they filed a complaint, Rane's supporters seemed unperturbed by the attack. They said that they didn't consider Shiv Sena a significant enough threat to take the matter seriously.
General Secretary Maharashtra Samarth Kamgar Sanghatana and former corporator of the Shiv Sena, Jaiwant Parab, said,
"Initially, the police refused to lodge a complaint. It was only after our leader argued with them that our complaint registered."
Uddhav's men claim that Rane's supporters entered their offices at around 7 in the morning and started threatening them and that led to a scuffle between the two groups.
"In the morning, a member of the Rane group came and threatened a Sena worker. It was because of this that the fight started and one of our workers beat him up. He was beaten so that he and his brethren stop threatening us," said General Secretary, Bharatiya Kamgar Sena, Kiran Pawaskar.
Both parties have registered FIRs against each other at the Santa Cruz police station.
